AccuFLEX Golf Continues Commitment to The Fight Against ALS
by Donating Proceeds of Sales
of Its “ICON v.2” and “ICON v.3” Shafts to Driving 4 Life
Golf Shaft Manufacturer To Re-Direct Donation Efforts From The Bruce Edwards Trust to Fund-Raising Organization Started By
Edwards, Jeff Julian and Tom Watson That Benefits the ALS Therapy Development Foundation
Gastonia, NC, August 2, 2004 -- AccuFLEX Golf announced today
that it will continue its commitment to the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the dreaded disease that
recently took the lives of Jeff Julian and Bruce Edwards, Tom Watson’s longtime friend and caddy. ALS is a progressive neuro-degenerative disease that attacks motor neurons in the brain and
spinal cord. When these motor neurons no longer send impulses to the muscles due to ALS, the muscles begin to atrophy, causing
progressively increasing muscle weakness. Motor neuron death makes it impossible for the brain to control muscles or signal
them to move. ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, has no known treatment or cure.
“We at AccuFLEX Golf have been honored to offer support to Bruce
Edwards and his family by donating to the Bruce Edwards Trust since May of 2003,” AccuFLEX president Jody Baucom began. “I was
in Augusta during the Masters this year when I learned the sad news of Bruce’s passing. We left word with Bruce’s family that we
would like to continue to honor Bruce’s life by donating to a cause of their choice. They have informed us that they would like
us to re-direct our donations from The Bruce Edwards Trust to Driving 4 Life. AccuFLEX Golf is proud to continue to honor the
memory of our friend, Bruce Edwards, by donating a portion of the proceeds of sales of our ICON v.2 shaft, which won two Senior
major championships in 2003, as well as last week’s Senior British Open, to the fight against ALS. We will also donate from
the sales of our ICON v.3 shaft, which has been very popular with players that want to get the ball up in the air a little easier.
Our sincere condolences go out to Bruce’s family and to the family and friends of Jeff Julian. We are saddened by their loss
but are strengthened by their example and are more committed than ever to finding a cure for this devastating disease.”
"The search for a cure for ALS continues despite the losses of
Bruce Edwards and Jeff Julian to the disease,” Tom Watson observed. “I would personally like to thank AccuFLEX Golf for
staying with the fight and continuing to fund the necessary research that will some day cure this dreaded disease."
